WH-IgM/IgY is a thiophilic affinity medium made by immobilising the sulphur-containing compound 2-mercaptopyridine on fine-grained, highly rigid agarose (average particle size of 34 μm), with optimised ligand density and IgM/IgY with suitable affinity, and fine-grained microspheres to enhance the loading of IgM/IgY with higher molecular weights. Thiophilic affinity is based on the principle of separating and purifying biomolecules using the interaction between electron donors and electron acceptors, which is enhanced in high salt environments and weakened in low salt environments.
